General Application Information

IMPORTANT NOTE: The Leading Edge Academy is fully enrolled, with a waiting list, for the 2016-17 School Year.  The application period to be included in the lottery for the 2017-18 School Year closed on February 24, 2017.  Any applications received after that deadline will be added to the waitlist.  Families seeking information on the current waitlist should contact the main office.  Thank you for checking back in October for information on the 2018-19 application process.

Thank you for your interest in Natomas Charter School’s Leading Edge Academy. If accepted, your child will be part of a program that prides itself on creating innovative, project-based learning experiences that develop critical and creative thinkers. Acceptance into the Leading Edge is a three-year partnership between school, students, and families with the goal of preparing students for whatever their futures may hold.  We are excited that you are considering joining our family.

 

APPLICATION PERIOD - Applications are will be available for download at the link above or pick up in our main office (4600 Blackrock Drive) after December 5th, 2016.    Completed applications are due on or before February 24, 2017 at 4:00 p.m. in the Natomas Charter School office at 4600 Blackrock Drive.  All documents must be submitted in person by a parent or guardian in order for the application to be considered a qualified application for enrollment.  We appreciate your time in completing an application packet.

  

MIDDLE SCHOOL INFORMATION NIGHTS - We will be hosting 2 evening sessions to bring you information on all of our Natomas Charter School middle school programs, including Leading Edge, PFAA, and PACT.  They will be held Tuesday, January 17th, 5:30-6:30 p.m. at Star Academy (4004 Gloster) and Thursday, January 26th, 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the NCS Main Campus (4600 Blackrock Drive). No RSVP required.

 

VISITING DAY - If you would like get a first hand look at our program, Visiting Day is scheduled for Friday February 10th, 8:30-11:00 a.m. Start your visit by getting information about the program from Amanda Goldman, the Leading Edge Academy Coordinator, veteran Leading Edge parents, and some of our fantastic students and teachers. After you have had an opportunity to chat and ask questions you will be able to tour our campus, visit classrooms, view student displays and meet with teachers. Star Academy students will be visiting main campus on Friday, February 3rd and should not attend the February 10th visiting day.  This day is reserved for Star Academy students only.  Star Academy parents are welcome to attend the February 10th visiting date. 

 

LOTTERY - The lottery for the 2017-18 school year will be held Monday, March 20th, 2017 at 4:00 p.m. in the Media Center (Building B) on the Natomas Charter School main campus.  The public is welcome to attend; children under age 18 (include Leading Edge students and alumni must remain outside during the lottery). 

 

The following guidelines apply to the application process (please see "Admission Preferences" under the Admission tab for complete details and policy):

  • By law, all Natomas Charter School applicants are accepted by a public random drawing.
  • The lottery drawing will be held during March.
  • Applicants not selected for enrollment in the lottery will be given an order number for the "wait list."
  • All families will be notified by mail of their status in the lottery drawing.
  • It is the responsibility of the guardian/parent to notify Natomas Charter School of preferences that apply to the applicant, and to provide verification of that preference.
  • Should your child not be accepted and would like to reapply for the following school year, you will need to submit a completed Addendum in January of the following year.
